Honorable Selvi Jeyalalitha
Chief Minister
Tamil Nadu
Dear Honorable Chief Minister,
Fist of all Tamils for Obama would like to thank you and congratulate you for all your efforts on Eelam Tamil issue. We consider you as our hero. As you may be aware, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be visiting Chennai soon. We hope you will be meeting her to discuss various issues. We are confident that you will raise the situation of Eelam Tamils in the island of Sri Lanka. We appeal to you to highlight UN Panel of Experts Report and its recommendation for international investigation into war crimes committed during the Sri Lankan civil war.
We also believe that the best way to solve the problem in Sri Lanka is to find out what the Tamils in that island want. The best way to find this out is by holding an internationally supervised referendum in the North and East of Sri Lanka, like the one held in South Sudan. The referendum in the South Sudan resulted in the world’s newest independent state and ended a decades-long period of violent oppression by the ethnically dissimilar and politically dominant northerners. We consider this a democratic and admirable solution to end conflicts and we hope that such a referendum in northeastern Sri Lanka could have a comparably desirable result.
We at Tamils for Obama have always admired you and hope that you can urge Secretary Clinton to support a referendum in the North and East of Sri Lanka. Thank you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Tamils for Obama
